Qualification & Service Overview

Advanced Level (A-Level) qualifications are crucial milestones for university admissions and career advancement. We partner with secure, independent exam venues to offer and strictly regulated environment for candidates taking A-Level examinations across all major boards.

Whether you are sitting for the first time or retaking to meet specific university conditional offers, our network provides the reliability and flexibility you need. We support both written papers and non-examination assessments (NEAs) where applicable.

Our dedicated team ensures that all Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations are strictly adhered to. Enjoy peace of mind knowing your examinations are handled with the utmost professionalism and care.

Sitting A-Levels as a private candidate

A-Levels can be entered privately at any age with no requirement to be studying anywhere, and the qualification is identical to one earned at a sixth form. What changes is that you organise the entry, the deadline and any practical arrangements yourself, rather than a school doing it in the background.

Most of our A-Level candidates fall into three groups: people retaking one or two subjects to meet a university offer, home-educated students, and adults returning to study for a course with a specific A-Level requirement. All three sit the same papers on the same dates as school candidates.

The summer-only constraint

A-Levels are examined in the summer series alone. There is no autumn window — the November series that people have heard about covers GCSE English Language and Mathematics only. That single fact governs everything else: a missed A-Level entry deadline costs a full year, not a few months.

Entries for the summer close the winter before, and centres set their own earlier deadline so entries can be checked and submitted properly. If a university offer depends on a grade, the entry deadline is the date to work backwards from.

Sciences, coursework and the practical endorsement

Written-only A-Levels — Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, History, Politics and the rest — need nothing arranging beyond the entry itself. The sciences are different. Biology, Chemistry and Physics carry a practical endorsement reported separately from the A to E grade, and a number of university courses, medicine in particular, ask for a Pass in it.

The endorsement requires the twelve required practical activities to be completed under supervision and assessed against the Common Practical Assessment Criteria. It cannot be added late, so decide early whether your course needs it. You can sit the written papers alone and take the grade with the endorsement not classified, which is fine for many purposes and a blocker for others.

A-Level Exam Centres in London — your questions answered

Can I take A-Levels as a private candidate in London?

Yes. We register private candidates for A-Levels with AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR and seat them at approved London venues. There is no age limit, no requirement to be enrolled at a school or college, and the certificate is identical to a school candidate one.

Is there an autumn A-Level series?

No. A-Levels are examined in the summer only. The autumn resit window applies to GCSE English Language and Maths, not to A-Levels, so missing a summer entry deadline means waiting a full year for the next sitting.

Do I need to have been taught the course?

No. Entering privately assumes you have studied the specification somehow — self-taught, with a tutor, or through an online provider — but nobody checks how. We provide the entry and the seat, not the teaching.

Which A-Level subjects are hardest to take privately?

The sciences, because of the practical endorsement, and anything with compulsory coursework. Mathematics, Psychology, Economics, Business, History and Politics are entirely written and present no obstacle at all.

Can I resit one A-Level and keep the others?

Yes. Each subject is entered separately, so retaking one and keeping the rest is normal. Your original grade stays on your record and the better of the two is the one you use, so a retake carries no risk to a grade you already hold.

Do universities treat private candidates differently?

Admissions decisions are made on grades and the personal statement, and the certificate does not show how you were entered. What a private candidate does need to plan for is the UCAS reference, which can come from a tutor, a previous school or an exam centre — but has to be arranged rather than assumed.

When should I register for a summer A-Level?

As far ahead as you can. Entries close the winter before the papers, and our own deadline is earlier still. With no autumn series to fall back on, the entry date is the single most important thing to get right.
